Why I didn't celebrate International Women's Day...

Yes it is a little disconcerting to see how IWD has taken off in the west. As usual the young generation is ignorant of history. It was always a Communist thing, although sometimes well-meant. I remember when I was in Mongolia years ago, the streets full of people carrying enormous cakes they could ill-afford to take to their wives/sisters/mothers. If the origins weren't so dubious, I'd just say have an International Men's Day, celebrate all aspects of both, including motherhood and fatherhood (and - imagine the squawking - the healthy differences between the two) and then (please!) just grow up and move on.
